Madison Eldridge

Marine Science Student

Hello!

Here's who I am & what I do

I'm Madison Eldridge a Marine Science Student at the University of Alabama. I have a huge love and passion for all wildlife. My love and passion for wildlife started from a young age while living in a fish and wildlife refuge. My father taught me how to love and respect wildlife and got me started in conservation as early as 10 years old. Over the years I have transferred this love into my research in various aspects of marine science in order to conserve declining populations and ecosystems.

I have recently completed research in seagrasses during a coral ecology class located in San Salvador Bahamas. My group and I looked at the different chlorophyll continents in seagrasses on and offshore and between the 2 species, manatee and turtle grass. While completing seagrass research the class as a whole was observing the coral reefs and the declines due to climate change.

I have also participated in shark and ray population surveys, which entail long-lining, gill netting, and tangle netting to catch sharks and rays. Then bringing them on board the boat to tag and collect data such as weight, size, gender, maturity, species, and genetic samples.

My plan is to continue these research topics into my career and into my research as I work towards a masters degree.  Along with this, I will continue to be an activist for wildlife conservation and hopefully see a better future for wildlife.
